In its present form it act as a public institution created by the County Council of Hargita County, financed by special founds of the Council.

Aims and tasks:

• Promotion of all genres of fine arts;
• Orgianising artistical and folclore creation camps on Szárhegy and in the county;
• Enriching the art gallery of the institution in such a way to reflect a specific cross-section of the Hungarian fine arts of the last 30 years;
• Administration and restoration of the Lázár Castle from Gyergyószárhegy;
• To keep in touch and provide the flow of information regarding the above topics with and among foreign and Romanian institutions and individuals with similar tasks and purposes.
